Kalitta’s FLA-RE Program FLA-RE is Kalitta’s exciting new pathway program for approved aviation programs.

FLA-RE stands for Future Leaders in Aviation – Related Education Program. This program was designed with the students in mind, allowing enthusiastic future aviation professionals an opportunity for advancement in an exciting long-term career.

When it comes to aviation, we share your excitement, and now with Kalitta’s FLA-RE program, you are one step closer to rounding out your career goals with one of the largest Passenger and Cargo on-demand carriers in the world.

Kalitta will hand-select candidates each year to become a part of Kalitta’s FLA-RE team. Each candidate will be assigned to one of Kalitta’s dedicated recruitment mentors, who will follow up and maintain a personal connection with the candidate. The FLA-RE team will have insider knowledge, personalized résumé help, career advice, and interview preparation workshops. FLA-RE team members will also gain access to the Kalitta FLA-RE Candidate Portal, where students can create and keep up to date their résumé and professional experiences.

Once the candidate has met their concentration requirements below and is in good standing with the school and their FLA-RE mentor, they are offered an in-person interview.

Who is eligible for the FLA-RE team?

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Students who maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Accepted in an approved aviation program
  • Students then must complete the FLA-RE application and interview

FLA-RE Scholarship

Kalitta Charters has developed the FLA-RE Scholarship to assist FLA-RE team members in furthering their educational goals. Over $10,000 in scholarships will be awarded to five students each year. Scholarship Applications open February 1st and are due March 1st, and interviews are conducted between March 1st through April 30th.

Every May 1st, the scholarships will be awarded.

Scholarship Requirements:
  • Must be an FLA-RE team member for one year and in good standing with the college and their mentor
  • FLA-RE team members must submit an FLA-RE Scholarship Application and complete an online interview

FLA-RE Programs

Pilot Program Requirements:
  • Candidates must have completed their Commercial Certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine Rating.
  • Candidates must instruct with the approved Flight School for at least 300 hours.
  • Candidates with R-ATP must have at least 700 hours; candidates without the R-ATP must have at least 1,000 hours.
  • Candidates must hold a valid FAA First Class Medical and FCC Radio License.
  • Candidates must hold a valid unrestricted driver’s license and passport with no travel restrictions.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must pass a 10-year security background check along with a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

Pilot Pipeline:

  • Candidates will start flying two weeks on, two weeks off with Kalitta Charters located in Ypsilanti, MI – Willow Run Airport (YIP); our Part 135 on-demand operations, gaining valuable expertise and industry know-how.
  • Candidates will choose a preferred interview with Kalitta Charters II or Kalitta Air scheduled operations once the candidate reaches a minimum of 3,000 hours total time or two years of dedicated service and has upgraded and served as Captain for at least two years.
Maintenance Program Requirements:
  • Candidates must have completed their Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate.
  • Candidates must complete at least 100 hours in an apprenticeship with either a Kalitta Company or other certified 14 CFR Part 145 Repair Station.
  • Basic mechanic tools (larger and more expensive tools are provided)
  • Candidates must hold a valid unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must pass a 10-year security background check along with a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

Maintenance Pipeline:

  • Candidates will start in our Aircraft Engine Shop, located in Ypsilanti, MI working with CF34-3 and CF34-8 Engines.
  • Once candidates have spent at least one year of dedicated service, candidates will be granted an interview for any suitable position with any Kalitta Company in any capacity.
Dispatcher Program Requirements:
  • Candidates must have completed their Dispatcher Certificate.
  • Candidates must hold a valid unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must pass a 10-year security background check along with a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

Dispatcher Pipeline:

  • Candidates will start in our Flight Following department at Kalitta Charters, located in Ypsilanti, MI.
  • Once candidates have spent at least one year of dedicated service, candidates will be granted an interview for any suitable position with any Kalitta Company in any capacity.
